Last night, 7.7.2012., internationally famous musicologist from Zadar, Katarina Livljanić, along with her vocal ensemble Dialogos pleasantly surprised the curious public. In the monumental Church of st. Donat on the ancient square Forum, K. Livljanić (voice), A. Maurer (fiddle, rebec) and N. Rodenkirchen (flutes, harp) presented their project ‘’Barlaam and Jozaphat’’ which has been viewed on numerous stages all over the world and positively accepted by critics (Le Monde, Le Figaro, Diapason, New York Times).
The story about Jozaphat and his teacher Barlaam, is inspired by one of the most well-known medieval legends originating from India. For its modern resurrection much persistent research from various archives was necessary. The christianized version of the life of Buddha is made up of seven different languages (Greek, Latin, Old-Russian, Old-Croatian, Old-French, medieval Occitan and Italian).
Dialogos carries the title of one of the finest ensembles of the new generation for medieval music, and last night the musical audience had an opportunity to witness their top notch interpretation woven with theatrical dimensions and expressed musicality.
